Help with roof line on addition

I am going to have a contracter add an addition to our home that is 2 storys high. He says he will have a problem with the roof and will have to raise the higher of the two rooflines to make it work. I'm not sure if its code he's trying to follow or if two parallel peaks are a bad idea. I have two photos showing what I'd like to do. I just want to run trusses out from the higher roofline and tie them into the lower roof. It's difficult to explain, hopefully the pictures will help, any advice is appreciated.
