Gutter Protection

What is the most effective gutter protection for a 12/12 pitch roof? Assuming the gutters are sized properly, will a fine mesh filter allow water to enter the gutter or will the water flow over the filter/gutter? Do any "covered" (non-mesh type filter/screen) gutter guards work with this pitch roof?

Given that all our gutters need to be replaced, the incremental cost of almost all protection systems we have been offered would pay for themselves immediately given they give no clog/cleaning guarranties. However, we are not convinced the water will enter the gutter system and therefore are concerned the guarranty would be meaningless. In other words, we would be spending money on a guard system that created a waterfall over the gutter sysem not through it. The feared result would be no clogging to exercise the guarantees, but also that the water would not be properly drained away from the house.

Would be most appreciative of gutter experise. Thanks!

The best system we have used on roofs that flow water quickly is the Raindrop gutter guard.

It can handle any amount of water you can throw at it.

I'm in the same situation, 12/12 pitch metal roof with no gutters currently. My problem is that I don't want the snow to rip my gutters off!

I put on 6" gutters and Leaf relief on mine and it works great.
As for the snow and ice ripping them off,do you have problems with ice dams?

Most caps, even the one that I listed, will allow the snow to slide off without hooking the gutter edge and ripping it off.

The reverse curl systems work best for that but they suck at keeping the debris out in my opinion.

I agree with you, I had poor experience with the solid hood covers when I used to install them years back. I also have had good luck with the raindrop gutter guard system with metal roofs at 12/12. I saw their videos on their website and the one that shows all the water going into the gutter was unbelievable.
