Gutter leaks after roof replacement

This is a question that's been on my mind all winter. On the whole I think the roofers did a very good job on my new roof. We went with Forest Green Certainteed Architectural shingles and it looks really nice. They replaced two sections of damaged seamless gutter in the back of the house, actually they subbed it out to a gutter company that all the roofers in my area use.

In the tear off and replace process in the front, they took one half of the gutter loose and when they finished they replaced that and did the same thing on the other side and kept the same spacing on the gutter hangers theoretically. The problem is that after the first heavy rain, I notice water streaming out of a hole about the diameter of a large nail right in the middle of the gutter. It was also slightly bowed in the the middle as well as lower on the end opposite from the downspout so the water sits in the middle.

I called the roofer and he insisted that nothing they did could have caused this problem. Not sure what recourse I have other than biting the bullet, climbing up there and fixing it myself which I started to do before it got really cold. At first he called me right back, asked if it was the new gutters installed by the subs and then said nothing they did could have caused that. It is a shame he cannot use my roof as a reference now since it came out looking very nice.

It just seems to me that this contractor is more interested in getting new business than maintaining a good relationship with his existing client base. Ironically, this guy also went to college for marketing before getting into the roofing business.

So are you just coming here to complain? It's ok if you are, I just want to be on the same page.

Gutter leaks after roof replacement

There was a question buried in there actually.

What recourse if any do I have to get this guy to make it right in spite of the fact that I did get up on the ladder to try to remedy it myself since he would not return my calls? And while I'm thinking about it, does this make good business sense to anybody in the contracting business? It would seem like one would be concerned about their reputation enough to maintain a good relationship with their past customers in spite of the fact that it takes time away from them making money on their new jobs.

I also forgot to mention that the guy included a 10-year transferable waranty in writing. But wwhat can you do if they won't return your calls?

I have never had that problem, so I don't know. I have always returned and fixed any issues my crews have caused, but you sometimes get that homeowner that breaks something, and wants you to fix it on your dime. I charge for this type of service.

Thanks for your responses. I really am just torn. On the one hand I want satisfaction, you know that sense of justice. On the other hand I just want to get up there and fix it myself and know that it is done.

I don't think I would worry too much about the fascia rotting. He could simply patch the holes in the ice barrier with a piece of ice barrier.
