Geodesic Roof

I own a geodesic dome in Massachusetts ... we've been here for 3 years ... and we are having the roof replaced this spring. Many contractors were reluctant to take on the job. Among the many challenges facing a roofer, apart from the unusual geometry of the structure, is this: the roof is not vented. There's some kind of foam insulation throughout. I've been told it might be Icynene.

I ran into a guy who has done some roofing and is familiar with the house. He suggested using Cedar Breather to create a vent space. I've read up on this product and I only see it recommended for cedar shingles. Our contractor is using a 30 year architectural shingle.

Is Cedar Breather compatible here?

Geodesic Roof

Hi Geoff,

Geodesic domes can be a challenge. I know of some homeowners that are working through issues related to reroofing them. If you are interested, drop me a private message and e-mail, and I'll put you in touch with them. One of them, in Oregon, is looking at creating ventilation around his dome, and we're kicking around some ideas on how to accomplish that.

Kind regards,

Paul

I think cedar breather could do the trick really well. You would probably want to hand nail, though.

cadar breather is really only for cedar roofs.
