Gap between plywood and gable

I had our cedar shake roof replaced with a asphalt shingle roof. When I checked in the attic I noticed there is about a 6 inch gap between the plywood that the shingles are nailed onto and the roof gable. The contractor told me this was not a problem, but I am not so sure. Is this a problem? Should I have the roofing company fix it? I have not paid for the entire roof yet.

Pictures would help but that, from your description, sound unacceptable.

If there's a 6" gap what's holding up the sheathing on the ends?
