Gable Vent Spot

1 Attachment(s)
I am looking to install a gable vent with a fan in my attic. Problem is where I am going to place the vent there seems to be a beam or something in the way. My question is this: If I cut this will it compromise structure? Yellow arrow marks piece in question.

Why a gable vent and not a ridge vent?
A ridge vent will vent the whole roof not just the ends of the attic.

Because I do not have any eves on the back of the house to put soffits vents in. This seemed like the next best solution.

Why are there no vertical studs on that (stressed) gable truss? No, do not cut it unless there are solid headers over the doors/windows in the walls below.

Don't cut it anyway. That's a standard truss - not a gable truss.

You still need inlet with a gable vent, especially if you're putting in a power vent. If you don't provide proper inlet, the fan can pull from inside the living space. More info is required.

A picture of the outside of the home may help come up with some ideas.
