Gable vent with roof vent.

My house is a ranch style that doesn't have eaves in the back. The front does and the addition that was added before I owned the property does. Some roof vents were installed before I bought the house but not nearly enough as suggested by the vent manufacturer per sq foot. My question is should I add gable vents in addition to the roof vents(which I will be adding 4 more)?

Exhaust always needs to be balanced with intake.

So seeing as though I don't have nearly enough soffit vents it would be ok to install gable vents?

On most home, exhaust is not in nearly as a short supply as intake.

Most homes are lacking intake volume.

You should have enough soffit vents but I would make shore there not fake soffit vents.
You should either have gable vents or ridge vents but you should not have a attic fan as well with the exhaust vents because you dont want to speed up the ventilation in your attic.

Should I close off the roof vents and just add gable vents with a gable vent fan?

You need a intake and exhaust. If you have no intake then the fan will full from inside your home you don't want that. Do you have a ridge vent?
Do you have prior gable vents? If so are they on the peek of roof or bottom of roof and where are the fins slanted up or Down.
With a bottom gable vent and a ridge vent you will be fine.

It depends on what you want to add, more intake or more exhaust.

If you want more intake then add more soffit vents, if you want more exhaust, then add more roof vents or a gable vent.

im in airzona with summer temps in the 110 plus range. most of the homes here dont have much for sofit vents but a lot for roof vents. the part of the country you live has a lot to do with it.

I actually live in the souhteast which has notorious hot and humid summers. I actually want both more intake and exhaust and the only place there are soffit vents is in the front of the house with no where to put them in the back.
