Flat roof tips

Im doing a carport and need some tips on roofing it. I have 1/2 cdx with 1/4" slope per foot and joists are on 16". I was planning to use rolled roofing, but i have a few questions. The only time i have used rolled roofing was for temporary repairs. From what i understand with rolled roofing, First you put down felt paper. Trowel down a thin coat of tar then foll out the rolled roofing, then nail the perimeter. I don't want a bunch of nails poking though on the bottom side, but i figure nailing every 16" is probably not enough? Maybe i should put nailers on the bottom side?

Am i right on how its done?

Flat roof tips

Tom beat me to the punch. Self adhering modified is pretty much the only DIY roofing system I recommend. EPDM is also another choice. I think the SA mod bit is more forgiving however, which makes it a better DIY system.

Flat roof tips

ended up going with flintastic torch down roofing. Youd have to be a retard to catch the roof on fire. But it took me a bit to feel confident i was doing it right. The first one i put down i don't think i got hot enough and im worried its not adhered good in spots. I would replace that one, but i know i got the edges hot and adhered well, so it would cause a ton of work to get it up. Anything i can do?
