heh im only 32 just been roofing for years and around it since I was born so I have no choice but to know things. Laid my first 3 tab at 6 it was a tough 1/2 sq rabbit shed I tell ya! Then when the addition to the house went up I got to help (around age 8) the big boys got brought out for that, I jsut got to feed shingles to them. something a little scarey to see when your 8 and watching guys carry 2-3 bundles of shingles up a ladder. lol Not these days though

Wow. I'm older than you. Holy chit. 33 here. I assumed you were an old man because you're always talking about hot and I only know old timers who talk about hot like you do.

I did my first roof coating at age 13 with my old man. You won't see guys like us anymore since it's now illegal to bring anyone on a roofing job site younger than 18 years of age. Then again, LOL, look what our parents did to us!

I don't feel old guess it's just a state of mind. But I was tearing off pitch and mopping it back down before you guys were born OMG.

Nope I just love me some BUR roofs. You are correct as its mostly old timers who talk about them as it really is a lost art.

Yeah you would be in big trouble if you did that now a days. On private jobs its a different story still more then likely will get you in trouble though. I was sweeping the shop floors and cleaning trucks ever since I can remember too. Even simple things like that would get you in a heap of trouble. Yeah but it was good that our parents gave us the value of a buck and how hard work pays off. A vaule that is going to the way side very quickly now.

Good for you! I some time feel old when my back hurts or my knee is acting up. Tearing off pitch oh so fun, We actually put a pitch roof down last year, first one in many many years.

The first job i was ever on I was running a gravel slip scoop from a smith hoist in between two pitch kettles in 90 degrees. I thought I was going to die on my very first day. Then I was so pitch burnt I just wished I would hurry up and die.

Cool dark basement and a 6 pack of beer helps My first hot job I ran the conveyor, in fact for some reason I allways had to run the damn thing because I was hte only one who could keep it running. Plus I was one of the only ones allowed to run the skid steer to load the trucks. Man those were the days nothing like blowing 10 lbs of gravel dust out of your nose. We still have that relic of a conveyor. Damn thing still runs stong!
