Flashing for this situation....

Just replaced the rake boards on my shed roof. They were 2x4s installed laying down to create the overhang on the rakes. Originally these boards were flush with the edge of the roof deck, so it created a nice seam for water to get into. I changed is so the roof decking is now flush with the edge of the rake board/overhang.

I have 1.5" drop drip edge, but the edge created by the 2x4 rake board + 1/2" plywood sheathing is 1.75". Im guessing the 1.5" drip edge will probably work fine, but I was thinking.......would it be better to have a flashing that can cover the underside of the rake board, so that any water coming off the 1.5" drip edge would hit the flashing instead of the rake board?

I havent looked locally for 1.75" drop (or larger) drip edge, so that might be the easiest solution, but I was wondering if "capping" the underside of the rake board would be a good idea regardless of drip edge size.

Thanks in advance.

Going over it would be best. Just capping it will allow water to enter.

As always thanks for the help.

I got some 1.75" drip edge, if that doesnt cover as much as I would like (it should) Ill look into having some custom bent. Funny thing is I just had my house re-roofed but I never saw the roofers use a metal brake. Not sure if they pre-bent them before getting on-site, or if they were just able to use off the shelf stuff.

I should have gotten a quote for re-roofing the shed, but I think it would have been a loss leader once they really got into it. Ive had to replace plenty of rotted roof truss/deck/rake boards.
