Flashing 101

I have just added a prorch to the side of my house. The porch has a gable roof that butts up against the side of my house that has vinyl siding. I am going to "strap" the porch roof and then put a metal on. What I need to know how to do, is to flash the roof that will be strapped and metal put on it where it meets the vinyl siding. Thankyou.

Metal roof is strapped means instead of the metal roof screwnailed to the sheeting it will be screwnailed to 1" X 4" boards that go up the roof on 2 foot centers. Location - southern Ontario, Canada.

You can go to any metal roof manufacturers web site and download the details you need. "Strapping" where I am from refers to running felts or other roll goods up and over a high point in the roof, in other words, parallel to the slope. We usually use the term spaced sheathing for horizontal nailers. We also do not call spiral shanked nails "Screwwnails" because they are either screws, and are screwed in, or nails which are nailed in. Just trying to keep terminology straight.
