Felt Paper and the Sun. Valley problems
I am installing a new roof on my southern california house. The house has a hip roof with two valleys. The problem I am having is my Felt paper seems to be shrinking from the intense sun. I ran my 30# paper through the valley and up the other roof plan for better protection. I nailed the paper staying at least 1 foot away from the center of the valley. The sun is causing the paper to pull tight between the nails. This is causing the paper not to lay down in the valley. You can push down on it and it just springs right back up because of the paper tension. Should I remove the nails and reset the paper? With the two roof planes and all the over lap this could be a lot of work. Is this a common problem? The paper has been exposed for about 3 days.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
No nails within 12"? I'd cut the felt down the center, then slide 20" wide pieces of felt, either one or 2 layers and tack the top corners, or if you're ambitious, use Ice and storm shield.
