I'm looking at buying a real fixer-upper as a house...Needs a new roof ASAP. I've been doing some reading and thinking of doing the roof myself. I live in Central Pennsylvania. What are opinions are far as 30lb felt or a product such as DeckArmor or both as underlayment... obviously the BEST is both one would assume but is DeckArmor or something similar necessary or advised in my area?

Thanks!

We have used the Grace product underlayment on the last few roofs. $95 for 10 sq and available at Home Depot. I have used many of the new synthetic underlayments, and for the price it can't be beat. We almost never use felt anymore. If you can't shingle it in a few days, don't count on the felt staying put.

Wow. A 10 square grace underlayment for $95?? Where do you live?
