Fascia

The following are my questions relating to attic ventilation:

1) What exactly is the definition of 'fascia'? Is this part of the underside of the overhangs of the roof? Where is it located? Will a vinyl fascia work too? Which is better-- a vinyl or metal fascia?

2) In my desire to avoid repainting the underside of the overhangs of my roof, the estimator that inspected and assessed my attic, suggested installing metal fascia (aluminum) which he said will last longer and does not require painting.
Will installation of a metal fascia pose a problem to my gutter?

3) Ridge Venting is the method of choice that would be installed in my attic for maximum and uniform air movement to prevent growth of molds. Is it necessary for me to replace my exterior roof too at the same time, or immediately after attic ventilation? Or can the roof be done later? Will there still be sound science in the matter of attic ventilation if the roof (exterior) is done independently? ( Many of my shingles are curling due to poor attic ventilation.) Or does it not matter?

Please advise. Thank you.

Capping or wrapping trim boards are what your adjuster is talking about.

Fixing the venting does not require roof replacement but if the roof is cooked, you might as well combine efforts as it will be cheaper done together.
