Extending gable over flat roof?

I have a flat roof addition, same width as main structure, that projects from a gable end. It leaks. I want to extend the gable end to cover. I imagine tearing off edges of roof to expose masonry walls. Epoxy in bolts. Add sills and then frame rafters and ridge to extend existing roof line. Do I need to demo any more of the flat roof except the sill area? Do I need to demo gable end wall? Enlarge gable vents? Thanks.

Pitch of new roof will determine whether you go 1' or 2' inside the wall area.

On reflection, you might even be able to use a double 2x6 plate on existing so the soffits don't end up being too low. Depending on amount of overhang.

When I do these, I attempt to figure out Plan(s) A.B.C.D.E.etc, and 'go with the flow' of what I find as I get into it.

Thanks Tinner

When you said if I will be in 1' or 2' did you mean where the new rafters will cross the side walls? I am hoping that they will only hit(cross) the tops of existing stone faced block walls that are built up to the same height as the existing gabled section. What you say makes me think that building some kind o kneewall slightly inboard and parallel to the side walls across the existing flat rafters might be easier than trying to fit nice flat sills to the top of the stone. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks, Luckily there are no penetrations in the flat roof.
