curved vents wire thing

On the other side of the house, (hip roof) why does one of the curved metal things have a wire guard and the other doesn't? Are they necessary or maybe the missing one fell off?

Looks like some funky home made screen that was installed wrong.
Grids to big, it should have been 1/4" galvinized hardware screen that was just covering the open not sitting outside like that.

It LOOKS like "they" only screened one of them? Unless I can't see the holes on the one on the right? It looks to be riveted or screwed on with a backer plate on the one on the left. Strange.....

A screen that big would only keep out large animals like raccoons and perhaps some birds.
If that was the reason, strange they wouldn't do them both.

Besides the round thing on the other side of the house, (different posted photo) and all these pipes...........there are 2 Ridge Vents.

Seems like a lot of venting going on for a 2 bathroom house. (+kitchen and the sink in the garage).

Maybe they were not trying to keep something out as much as keeping something in ?
