Cobra Roof Vent
We are in the process of buying an 11year old home in Nelson Co, VA It was built with a "cobra roof vent on the top of a very high vaulted ceiling . The builder told us the shingles are a 50 year type. Our inspector told us the roof should be replaced within the next five years. Should the shingles be in that bad a shape if the roof was put on correctly and the ridge vent was this type (the cobra vent) ? Has anyone ever experienced this same type of degrading roof while a Cobra vent was employed?

Home inspectors usually don't know much about roofing.

We just had our roof done using the Cobra ridge vent. Wanting to make sure we used the best materials, we first consulted a friend who's an expert builder, and he told us to use the Cobra vent. So, the vent should be a good one.

Is it the Cobra or Cobra II? What kind of intake do you have? Is the roof right for ridge vent or does it have short ridges? It's vaulted, does the insulation block the ventilation? What reasons did the inspector state for needing to replace the roof? How old is the roof?

I don't like cobra vent, but don't ind cobra II.
