Chimney water proof and salt crystal

A couple of years ago, we hired chimney masonary specialist to redo concrete cap over chimney and water proof entire chimney.

The following year, I did notice concrete cap was already cracking around the edge and chimney had a lot of salt crystal which we never had.

We called them because it was 10 year warranty.

The company manager came over and told us, the guy who did our work didn't do a good job hiring people, they had a lot of recall on projects.

So, they told us, current cap was fine and they will re seal chimney brick where salt was coming out.

But both are still having issue and not sure how to solve the problem.

I am not sure, if we should call them out or not because salt crystal issue is getting worst and need attention.

What causes salt crystal and why now after water proof was put on?

It's called effervescing. Moisture infiltrating the chimney and leaching out the calcium and other minerals. Most prevalent on cinderblock and cmu.

Try posting in the concrete/masonry forum under home improvement.
