Question

Can you put dimensional shingles on a grabrel / mansard roof?

We took a lot of wind damage recently to our dutch colonial home. I'm still a little confused on if this roof is considered a mansard or a gambrel roof. It has the upper angled portion that meets and a peak and the lower portion comes down at almost a straight angle with 3 dormer windows sticking out.Has that barn kinda look to it. Anyway the last roof was a 30 year 3 tab shingle. It lasted 10 years before the wind tore it up. I'm entertaining a dimensional shingle since I hear they hold up to wind much better but I have been told they don't look right or lay right on my type of roof. Is that true? Thanks

It's done all the time. Lot's of store fronts are done this way.
You have pay special attenion to the directions when nailing them.
There made in 2, layers if there not nailed in the right area the two sepperate and come apart.

Yes, but make sure it is 6-nailed and nailed properly on the nail strip. Will hold up great. Have seen many that gravity releases the back laminate and it falls out.

+1

Works just fine. Minimum 6 nails and they should be hand sealed.
