Burying downspout above frost line
I have a terrible downspout on the side of my house. This coming spring I am going to dig a trench from it to drain out my backyard. Should I connect this underground or use a landscape catch basin below it? Will I have issues if the downspout froze underground?

Where it's most likely to freeze is where it is exposted to daylight if you do not run it to a drain pit filled with stone.
