Best Sealant?
Hi All,
I am a newbie and would like to ask probably a stupid question for you roofers. I was planning to put new shingles on but it looks like I'm going to have to do it sooner than I thought since I found a leak this morning! A roofer once told me about a great sealant that flows and finds the leak. He showed me the tube that was in his caulk gun but can't remember the name. Thanks in advance for any help! |
Trying to just patch a leaking roof is a very bad idea and may end up cosing you far more in the long run when the sheathing under the roof all rots out or it takes out your insulation and sheetrock.

I'm a roofer and never heard of such a sealant. I've only been roofing for 40+ years though. Find a real roofer unless you want to do this several times before getting it right.

Yeah i know the product, but i perfer to just use my magic wand. :jester:
Serioulsy, never heard of such a product. |
Just get you a few cans of Great Stuff and squirt away.It flows and expands.Just kidding.
I use Karnak and Vulcem. Vulcem has a product that flows and sets up like rubber but its not for roofing. |
Thanks guys, I thought that sounded too good to be true. I just wanted a name of a good roof patch sealant for shingles. There are so many at Lowes & HD that my eyes just glaze over!

You can buy bucket after bucket and tube after tube of sealant but IMHO nothing beats the sound sleep you will experience when the shingles/materials/components are removed and replaced.
