Basketball backboard

Im contemplating buying my son a basketball backboard and attach it to the roof of my garage. What is the best way to attach this to the roof of my garage? I do not want it to leak or look like crap, i actually had a new roof put on a few years ago.

No offense but I have yet to see a basketball goal attached to a garage roof that didn't look like pooh.Basketballs being thrown at your house is never a good idea IMO.

I have 2 basketball goals on stands.

They cost a bit more.,but by the time you factor in broken windows, smashed siding, damaged doors, leaks, smashed gutters, basketball scuffs on your shingles being a possibility the goal on a stand is a sound investment.

Besides it is much easier to move and or dismantle during the winter time.

I'll agree with the previous post. But, use lags into the rafters or trusses of the roof and make sure you use a water proof silicone to cover the tops of the bolts. Can't guarantee that water won't get under the framing, but that's the risk you take when you drill into your roof.
