Attic Venting

Not sure if this is the proper place for this question.

At the moment i have half-ed venting in my attic. I have two vents that have a 12in sq hole in my roof on the east and west sides of the roof. I have no ridge vents, no soffet venting. my attic has a foot print of 1200 sqft. and if i stant in the center of the attic, i have a total height of 8 feet.

I have been told to look into a power vent. Id assume that I will need an exhaust so the power vent would go on the, say, east side of the house and the intake vent would be on the west side? I want to get a vent that do its job and not rob my air conditioned air from the house. I like the idea of a solar vent but I dont know how it will stand up to the weather we get here in Columbus, Indiana.

The best method would be to install soffit and a ridge vent. Do you have overhangs? Pictures would help.

Not a fan of the powered fans ventilators for the reasons that you mention. Are you getting to re-roof the home?

I am going to be in the process of reroofing hopefully in about a month.

I have soffets, but they are closed and do not vent at all. Right now they are boxed in. There are no holes to the attic either.

Are the 12 in square vents you are describing actually on the wall ... that is are they gable vents?
