Attic Ventilation

I am getting ready to reroof my home. I have researched attic ventilation on the internet and I am totally confused about ventilation requirements.

My home is a 23 year old single story ranch with 2076 sq. feet of heated area and a two-car garage (529 sq. ft). It has 14-soffit vents (7X14 inches each), four gable vents (18X22 inches each), and three roof power vents.

My contractor suggested that I cover the power vent openings in the roof and install a ridge vent. Would this be a better method for attic ventilation than the power vents? Also, would the gable vents have an adverse effect on the ridge vent cooling?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ridgevent will do you little good with gable vents, the air will take the least path of resistance & instead of it coming from the soffits you will just get the air coming from the gables, same as your power fans.
Unless you have an extremely large house it sounds like overkill
1 square foot of ventillation for 300 sq ft of floor area, that's combined soffits & roof.
Different areas of the country may have different requirements

we would close the power vents,install continuous ridge vents,and close the gable vents,because as Dale says they interfere with air flow for proper cross ventilation,you should have enough soffit intake,although it`s easier to calculate if you give dimensions rather than sq. footage
