Attic vent

I have 3 vents on my roof along with an attic fan. I noticed that all the soffits are blocked by insualtion and it's hard to get to. For the time being, am I better off keep the attic fan off since their is really no intake air and to prevent sucking air from the living space? When I pop open the opening to the attic, you can defiantely feel current from the fan.

Do you have a "gable" or "hip" style roof? IF a gable roof style you should have vents in the ends of the gable which would allow some air flow. IF a hip style roof then your only venting my be in the soffits. It sounds as if you do have a hip style roof with the air movement by opening the attic access. In order to properly ventilate the attic space you will have to pull back the insulation covering the soffit vents. Maybe this winter. David

It's a gable and I realize I have to open up the soffits, but the question was regarding the attic fan.

A lot of people would argue here that the vents in your attic serve as the intake for your attic fan.
