Attic Insulation on Roof

We are currently remodeling our attic for additional kid space and thinking about spray foam insulation on the attic ceiling before dry walling. Since the spray foam fills the entire space between the ceiling roof joists, do I also have to install baffles? A DIY buddy said you still need circulation to move the hot air out of the roof cavity. My hair is hurting form all this construction techie stuff. The remodeling is not cheap, so I want to make sure I do the right thing when it comes to insulation the attic roof. Also, what should I be looking for when it comes to selecting a spray foam contractor. Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions

Attic Insulation on Roof

Where are you located ?
A hotter climate/more sun I would prefer ventilation to keep the shingles/roof cooler

But with spray foam the idea is that the cavity is full of foam & heat does not penetrate
And the spray foam usually fills up most of the cavity, if nto all, and as a result is not full of hot air

Closed cell or open cell foam? Closed cell - vent baffles probably won't hurt if you've got the space. If it's a toss up between enough insulation and baffles, I'd forgo the baffles for more insulation.

Open cell is a poor second choice and should be vented as water vapor can penetrate it.
