asphalt shingles
 

can someone help me?i read in the home depot home improvement book on roofing with asphalt shingles.i want to put architectural shingles instead of three tab shingles.they explain very clearly on how to put down starter row and then trim 6 inches off each shingle until seventh row i think it was.my question is those instructions are for 36 x 12 inch shingles the ones at home depot are 39 and a quarter inch.can i use the same method or is there another?

Yes, that should not be a problem.

The shingles will come with instructions on the wrapper. Depending on the manufacturer, they're all a little different, what you are proposing will be fine, I agree.

If you don't care for reading the torn up plastic wraping, most major shingle manufacturers have instructions posted on thier website.

The advantage to reading the wrapper is that it IS up on the roof with you, it is referring to the exact type of shingles that you are installing, and it is repeated on every package in case you missed a bit. Also, it doesn't require taking your computer on the roof!:jester:
