Asphalt Roofing Part List

Hi, I picked out the architectural shingles and found a contractor who estimated the job very cheap compared to others, and I want to make sure he is not cutting corners to do get the job done. The roof size is about 34 sq.

Attached is the receipt of all the parts (minus 7 roof vents which I'm buying separately). Based on the list, is there anything he may be missing that should be included to do a thorough job? Thank you for your help!!

Looks pretty good.

Don't see any ridge vent or pipe collars.

I'll talk to him about the ridge vent and pipe collars. How about Exhaust Caps and Furnace Caps?

Not enough felt, and #15 is garbage nowadays. probably be short some nails too. Also clear silicone is almost as crappy as latex for roof applications. You want a urethane or tri-polymer based sealant.

+1

Figuring that the guy was the cheapest bid, I was guessing he was going to skimp on some materials choices.

I agree.I always use 30# felt.Makes it easier on the roofer too. They don't have to worry so much about tearing it.
3 bundles H&R perforated:Thought maybe those were vented ridge shingles.
Don't any cap nails for the felt. Some guys staple it but it makes it to easy to pull thru IMHO

Needs to get rid of the clear ultima crap, and use some REAL roofing/flashing sealant.
No ridge vent (weather it be roll out or something like the plastic snow king), cap nails ARE better for underlayment IMO, but staples work too.
Id be using at least 30# felt.
Vent boots arent on there either

New skylight flashings, around $100.
If its more than ten years old I would change the skylight too, better chance that is lasts as long as the rest of the roof. looks like a 2x4, should just be a few hundred extra.

you get what you pay for. if every one did what this guy is doing we would all go broke. any one whos going to buy, or has, the material is trying to make sure that the installer isnt going to make more than they figure they should. if anyone calls me saying they already have the material, then i say = then you can do it yourself. sounds like you got some fair prices but cant afford them. so you find some one who will do it cheap, why will they do it cheap, because there starving, why are they starving, because they do lousy work. good luck. and now you want someone to verify that they have everything you need. good luck. worse that will happen is that hell do half the job, and do it wrong.

He's probably cheapest because he is buying his material from Menards and using all inferior materials besides the shingles themselves.
