Anyone know anything about roof framing sitting on wood?

Joe, I dont think they are cut nails that old. Probably hand forged nails like in Williamsburg.
Ya ever seen how a hog trough is built? Looks just like a stiff back with ends on it.

Here is a picture. As you can see the rafters are sitting (unattached) on an eclectic mix of pieces of wood.

I don't believe the rafters are original. The wood looks too new. As you can see from the floor boards, the old wood is often obvious.
