1968 siding repair or replace...
I have siding that has rotted in a few places, I was wanting to just replace the panels but not sure if and where to find replacements for an older home....any ideas?

How would anyone know without a picture so we can see what type siding you have and why it failed.

It failed due to poor gutter positioning, excessive water spilling over corner onto the wall.

It looks like the early fiber cement siding that contained asbestos that was on my house. It's the same color, with the same color brick too! LOL! Must have been popular in 1974.

I'd have it tested. You can usually find a box store that sells a mail in test, or your local contractor supply house probably can tell you where to find one.

We removed ours entirely 10 years ago and replaced it with vinyl. Had to keep it wet why we were handling it and bag it all up and let the dump know what was in the bags. Thankfully, ours was like yours and only half the house had the siding. We took the opportunity to add some XPS foam to the exterior to get the R value up in the house.

It looks like an early hardboard siding to me, regardless you'll likely never find a match or anything even close.

I'll say its hardboard or cellulose (wood) fibre-cement. If it was asbestos cement, it would not be rotting from the moisture.
