whats up with those mexican ceramic tiles?they where brutal

I just finished a job and had to use ceramic 12x12's from mexico for a bathroom floor. Honestly they were a ***** to work with...they chipped when cutting and i could cut them with a ceramic tile cutter(the blade might have been slightly dull???) I had to use my wet tile saw and that even has some trouble. I cut 1 inch thick marble with that wet saw and had no issues.

What the hell do they make them out of? Does anyone like working with them or is it just me?

I have also heard of ceramic tiles made in china being a ***** and that they have to be soaked in water for 24 hours before you lay them because they suck all the moisture out of the mortar.

what tiles are good and from where?
