Water on my new installed tiles....problem? - DIY Chatroom

There was a major rain fall and I got some water in an area of my basement where 2 days ago I had just finished laying some ceramic tiles.

There still is no grout on, and I can see the water inbetween the tiles. Is this a problem?

I have dried the water up but I can still see some inbetween the tiles/ridges.

as long as you used thinset I dont think it is a problem. If need be take your hairdryer and and blowdry the floor LOL LOL

Not a problem with thinset, let 'er dry before you grout. Set up a fan or two and keep the air moving in the area.

I kept pushing with my nails on the thinset to see if it was getting soft.
Not soft at all. It is all dry now.

Once it has set-up thinset will not get soft again. Mastic yes, thinset no.

What is mastic, and when do you use it?

Mastic is an over-priced insufficient method of installing tile in a dry location. NOT to be used on floors however. Works fine for some ceramic tile back splashes in kitchens and baths using small format tiles but doesn't work well in wet areas.

Doesn't work at all with large tiles.
