Using white thinset with dark grey grout.

Hello,

I am remodeling one of my bathrooms. I removed all tiles and underlayment. Then I installed cement Durock boards on old plywood using grey VersaBond thin set. I have a lot of thin set left.
Now I am planning to put tiles on top of my new underlayment. I have light color porcelain tiles (very light grey color, close to white) and much darker grey grout.
Is it ok to use the same grey thin set? Is it going to work with almost white tiles and grey grout?
If not, then if I buy white VersaBond thin set is it going to work with grey grout.
What are my options?
Buy white thin set and lighter colored grout?

Please help.

Thanks a lot,
Igor.

works fine with porcelain. it's only transparent stone {like white marble} that's a worry and even with that i doubt you would ever see it unless the lighting was perfect.

I think you'll regret the darker grey grout. Against almost white tiles, I think it will just look like dirty grout. I'd return it and get a grout that's the same color or only slightly darker than the tile - a light grey would be better than a dark gray.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion.
I don't like white grout on the floor because very soon it becomes dirty and grey anyway.
And I would like grout color differ from tile color.
I'll think about returning dark grey grout and using lighter grout color.

gotta go with what you like for colors. without pictures of the room and tile we really can't even make a rational suggestion with the grout. do give some thought to it and possibly ask 1-2 people you know what they think.

I got white Versabond mortar and put few tiles yesterday. The mortar color almost matches my tiles color. So, it is not visible and looks good even without grout.
I also went to Home Depot and got ‘Antique White’ color grout. It almost matches my tile color as well. I think I am ok now.
Thanks a lot for all your help.
Igor
