tiling shower bench

hi everyone

We're mid-construction... bench is built, cement board is up, shower pan is installed, and everything is hydrobanned.

I thought I had a wonderful plan to put a solid-surface on the "seat" part of our shower bench... and then I was told that the minimum purchase is $1200 for solid surface counters . Still hoping to get a bright white solid surface bench to match the modern tiles, but it seems unlikely. I must develop a back-up plan. I elect tiling the bench.

A question about tiling and the edge of the bench: If sitting on the bench, the 90 degree edge where the backs of your knees would hit.... how do you deal with it? my tiles are not bull-nosed. If it were outside the shower, I'd use one of those schluter rounded plastic edges. Is that appropriate in a shower? Is there another tactic I'm unfamiliar with?

Thanks for your help!

Go back to the slab seat idea--I pay $35 to $65 each---more for granite---
Start
calling around and ask if they have a 'drop'(waste) that is big enough for your seat.

You called the wrong shop---

good to know. My only restriction is that it must be bright white... so most natural stone won't do... and the greek stuff is gorgeous but $$$.

thanks. I'll be more tenacious.

My regular 'go to' granite house is also a bit arrogant about little orders.--I was given some guff about waiting ---so I found a new granite house who treats me like a welcome customer--

Now my 'go to' supplier no longer gets referrals from me---they may 'go to'-XXXX

I wish you were a LI'er and could tell me a good place! That's what I'm dreading... trying to find a place willing to work with me. It's difficult with my work schedule to try to do this. argh. but I'm getting mighty tired of not being able to get dressed in my master bathroom!

We have a member or two from your neck of the woods---Perhaps one of them will chime in with a friendly fabricator---

If you must tile the seat without any bullnose tile--I suggest that you use an aluminum tile edging--
Google Schluter tile edging profiles--they are stocked at the Home Depot and most tile stores.
