Tiling my shower

Installing 12x24 tiles in my shower. Is thinset better than medium set for this application? It will be 8 tiles high. Plan on using the modified Versabond since I have a bag leftover from my floor tile job. Anything to watch out for?

How heavy is each tile? Just use what you have, and you will be fine.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

Tiling my shower

What type of waterproofing do you have on your shower walls? Some membranes recommend unmodied thinset. What type of trowel do you intend to use for tiles that big?

I'm a Tuscan man when necessary but honestly with some care taken during installation those leveling systems are most often a giant waste of a clients money..

I will use leveling clips as tiles are heavy. The backing is cement board for wet areas. Plan to use 1/2 trowel and butter back.

Cement board is not a suitable waterproofing measure. Coat the cement board with aqua d or similar before tiling. I prefer kerdi board because of ease of installation but you're probably past that.

Leveling clips are not spacers. What brand of leveling system do you own?

Proper water proofing methods are essential for the success of a shower system. There are tons of good youtube videos on this topic..
