Tiling, ceramics,marble

Mortar not setting, installed travertine tile over a proflex membrane on sat. and mortar still has not set. Is this normal?

Installed Travertine tile over Proflex membrane on Sat. and mortar still has not set up. Used a premixed premium mortar for stone and tile.12x12 tile 1/4 x 1/4 notched trowel.

Oh,boy--I hate to be the one that has to break this to you--You used the wrong setting material.

You should have used modified thinset--the powdered stuff that is mixed with water.

What you used is mastic.--water soluble --needs air to dry--will get soft if it ever gets wet.

with a membrane and a 12x12 tile there is no air to dry it.--

I hope this was not to big of a job---you may have to clean all that stuff off and use thinset.--Mike--

You posted this twice---Sorry --you used a water soluble premix--you should have used modified thinset

That stuff needs air to dry--with a membrane and 12x12 tiles there is no air.

You will need to remove the tiles--scrape off the mastic--scrub every thing clean and use the right product.

I went to their web site--they recommend using modified thinset--that comes in a bag and is mixed with water.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news---Mike--
