My bathroom odyssey continues... I've decided on a 12x24 inch tile that I like and fits my budget. I'm planning on using the same tile on the floor and walls, including a wainscot all the way around the room. I put together the attached layout plan and would appreciate feedback from the experts.
I am planning on a vertical tile layout - I spent a lot of time browsing showrooms and liked the look. I figure I will put the ledger board at the height of the bathtub spout pipe - about 6" above the tub deck (saves at least one headache of a mid-tile cut). Height from the deck to the ceiling is 70", so that works out quite well to use three tiles vertically with little waste. I thougt about starting with a full tile, but that would give me a low wainscot with two tiles (39") to keep the grout lines aligned. Plan as drawn would be about 45", 5" below the bottom of my outlets/switches.
Will probably use a Schluter Quadec edging on the tub outside corner and the drop from the ceiling to the wainscot. Debating if I take that all of the way around or maybe go with a wood molding.
Grout color will be as close as possible to the tile color to minimize any alignment issues. Thinking 1/4" spacers. Also planning on using a tile leveling system (Lash?).
Medium bed / large tile mortar with a 1/2 x 1/2 trowel.
My plan:
1. Start on wall D at the right edge of the tub. This will let me keep the grout lines running straight from the floor up the wall. Will tile all walls from the ledger board up first.
2. Tile the floor.
3. Remove the ledger and tile down to the tub deck and floor.
4. Grout.
Anything I am missing? Thanks in advance.
