Small bathroom tile design

We have a small bathroom that needs new flooring installed. We are thinking about 12" tiles laid in a diamond pattern. We are considering having an inset of 1"tiles (maybe 3 or 4 wide) as a border near the center of the room but are afraid it will make the room look smaller.

The room design looks like it can handle it if it doesn't make it look too small

Is that design recommended for small bathrooms?

Small bathroom tile design

Swinks,
Something like this? These were 12" tiles with the corners clipped on every other joint with four one inch mosaics for accents. This room was a couple inches out of square with some supposed to be 45 degree angled walls. The only thing with running the tiles on a diagonal is that if your walls are out, it shows up more on your triangle shaped pieces.
