setting 1''x1'' sheets on a shower floor

Can I use grout to set the sheets on my shower floor?
the thinset keeps pushing up thru the tiles and I have to use elbow grease to clean the thinset out so I can grout.
and while I an asking if I use Custom's REDGARD ,is the thinset applied directly on the Redgard ?

Now I'm no expert, but my shower is done with 1"x 1" tiles on 12" x 12" sheets. Mortar that came up through got sanded with a grout saw for grout. 2 years all good and no leaks

Use thinset, not grout, to set tiles.
Remove the excess thinset right away. It is easy to remove while it is wet. Once it dries and hardens it is a lot more difficult.
If you used Redgard on the walls, yes, tile directly on the Redgard.

Sounds like you may be using to much thinset.
Are you using a toothed trowl?

use way less thinset. I had the same issue with some accent tiles recently, the less thinset I used, the better and easier they were to install.

This is because you are using the WRONG TROWEL.
