Sealing Marble Tile - When to do it...
Greetings All - Soon I will be installing marble tile in one of my bathrooms and have read two different approaches pertaining to sealing the tile. The FIRST approach is to lay the tile on the mortar, after it sets apply the sealant, then continue with the grout. It suggest by doing it this way you will avoid staining the tile with the gout. The SECOND approach is to seal the tile after the grouting process. Please offer any thoughts that you have on this please. Thanks

Seal both before and after.:)

Before to protect from staining the tile and after to protect from staining the grout.:)

Be sure you do not use a contrasting color grout. Unless the surface is textured I see no benefit to sealing before grouting to reduce the possibility of staining from the grout. In such a case the grout would stain the tiles from the sides creating a 'picture frame' stain. But safest bet is to use white unsanded grout. In that case you can go both ways or just after.

If you have the time a test might be in order.

I was always careful to seal the sides/edges also just for that very reason.:)
