To seal or not to seal - tile

HELP!!! I have a tile that is from Mexico and has an oil painting on the top. The tile is going to be used in a mosaic on the back patio and I'm nervous about the grout possibly hitting and discoloring the oil painting. I'm sure that it needs to be sealed but am unsure on what to use to seal it. Polyurethane? Any suggestions are most appreciated.
