Removing white (calcium deposits?) from pool tile?

Hello, hope i posted this in the right section. Have an old pool and am cleaning it, there is a white residue on the tiles that is very difficult to get off w/o ruining the tiles. Can anyone help me with an appropriate way,or chemical, or tool that would help? Thank you for your time!

If it's calcium, vinegar should remove it. I suspect it isn't. Try a little vinegar though, in a small unobtrusive area, just in case. Is it outdoors? If not, be sure you have good ventilation, in case it's residue of some other chemical (pool chemicals can be nasty, although I don't know what would be so difficult to remove). If it's on the pool wall, soak a rag in vinegar & somehow get it do stay up against the residue.

Double-posting is frowned upon.

zep makes a calcium and lime remover that actually does a pretty decent job. the stuff is just toxic to breathe but i've had success in well water stained toilets and mineral build up elsewhere.

If the milder acids don't work for you try "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner--The cheap watery kind--Not the new 'improved' thicker stuff.

Apply--scrub clean--rinse well---nasty fumes--will damage grout if not rinsed-promptly.--Mike---
