Hey

Removing grout is no fun. First of do you have to. Many times it can be cleaned the sealed and if a darker grout is wanted then it can be stained.

Well Back to you question various way to remove grout. I have seen "as on tv" diamond blades for rotatory cutters. I would believe the risk of damaging the tiles with such a unit would be eminence. I am not recommending using power tools except for a vacuum to pick up the broken up grout.

Take a medium to small nail and drive it in a scrap dowel or similar the scrap will act as a handle wile you can slowly work the grout out with the nail.(probably about a 10d go smaller or larger for your use though) If the nail bends replace it. A awl or ice pick may also work well. a small putty knife sometimes can also help. I know of no easy way but sometimes it does need to be done. Maybe other members have a quick trick way? I too would like to here of a easy way.

we're not tile guys but we use abrasive coated tile knives avail in apron stores' tile sections,,, think they're coated w/alum oxide,,, we also use carbide tipp'd style, too.

think i'd rather use a dremel rather'n the oscillating fein tool,,, $400 ? ? ? - YIKES ! ! !

harden'd cut nails or conc nails work, too, but much slower imn-s-hfo

There is a grout removal kit available from Dremel. It's a bit and a router-like collar that helps guide your bit along the joints. I've used it with success many times. The bits tend to wear out quickly, though, so make sure you get a couple of extras.

Ed. to add - YIKES! I just noticed that the OP is over 3 years old. D'oh!

WOW!!!!!!:)

For about eight bucks you can buy a "grout saw" at any home center. It's labor-intensive but do-able. There are many ways that include power tools but the grout saw does the trick.:)
