RedGard on Concrete floor before tiling?

Hi I was about to use RedGard on a long bathroom's concrete floor before tiling.
Was planing on using RedGard for crack prevention not for water proofing.

The Concrete is in pretty good shape just has a few hairline cracks that run across it. The floor is only about 22 years old. One crack is about 1/8 inches thick running across the floor and about 2 are about 1/8 inches thick. The rest of concrete seems like it's in good shape.

Does RedGard have to be applied all over the concrete? Or if I could just paint it over the cracks

Also after it is painted on, is it OK to walk on it for setting up the tiles and doing a dry run with the tiles? Or will I need to put construction paper down to protect the RedGard.

Also, I'm guessing if I do put RedGard all over the concrete it will be interesting putting the chalk marks and marking where tiles go....hmmm

Redguard can be used as an uncoupling membrane---if you don't cover the entire floor---and just do the crack areas---make the band about two feet wide.

Once dry you can walk on it without an issue.

Thanks Mike. I'm just trying to keep costs down as I would need to buy 2 gallons if I had to do the whole floor. I think I'll just do it over the cracks only. This crap is expensive! haha:laughing:

I use Hydroban---almost twice as expensive----but for your use Redguard is a fine choice----Mike----

sorry one last question do you have to create a primer by diluting 4-1 part water. I had read somewhere on internet someone did that, but wasn't sure since my concrete floor is fairly clean and just 22 years old?

Follow the manufactures instruction---they know better than a stranger on the internet--I'm a stranger-

Seriously---go to the maker----the more you know about a subject, the more you will see how much truly bad information is floating around on the web.

This is an easy fix. After you put your chalk line down spray line with hairspray wait to dry. Works great, try on any uncoupling membrane
