Recessed ceramic soap dish in tile shower

Well, I have a 50's(ish) white tile shower with a recessed ceramic(?) soap dish. The shower is lovely, the soap dish is not. Underneath, the finish is flaking, deteriorating, browning and ugly. Today I scraped away the caulk and when that was gone, it became apparent this thing wasn't budging. I then started scraping away at the grout and using various tools, realized I could definitely chip away at it until it was gone. This is where I stopped chipping and started googling. If I break this soap dish apart, will I find one to replace it without spending much? We actually don't even use the soap dish so it occurred to me I could possibly find some replacement tiles to just cover it all up. Can I though? With it being fully recessed, what will it look like behind there? Will I just be able to add a piece of treated wood to attach tiles to? I'm not sure what to do here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The dish itself is one with a grab bar at the top. I'd say it would take 4-6 complete tiles to cover an absent soap dish.

Recessed ceramic soap dish in tile shower

I would chip it out and cover it. Who wants a soap dish in the floor anyway?

Thanks. Wrong place. I get it. Your sarcasm is not lost on me.
