Pink & Gray Plastic Tile in Bathroom

I've been in my home for just about 2 years and it's time to do something with the UGLY 50s style pink and gray plastic tiles in the bathroom!!
I wonder that whether I should prim and paint them, or heat and remove them? I worry that if I choose the first choice, will I have to invest in new dry wall? Since I don't want to spend much money after spending alot on a master bedroom redo!

Save your $ until you can afford to do it right. Prime and Paint tile = DIY Fail.
