pattern in floor

I am tiling my kitchen floor with 12x12 tiles and am thinking about doing some kind of pattern in the layout. The kitchen is a square and I'm thinking of if making some sort of design about 2 ft into the layout, either tiles on a diagonal or a different tile. Here is a picture, not the best but hopefully it will get the idea accros.

The square with no tiles on it is where I would like to do something different in order to break up the square pattern and creat an interesting look instead of a bunch of 12x12 squares. What is the best way to tackle this? I would think to snap some lines and then tile some parts and wait till the next day and do the rest? Or should I do it all in one day? Thinking maybe do the 12 inch tiles the first day and leave the middle line empty and the next day put in the tiles in between the 2 sqaures? Not sure I guess. Thanks for any input with this.

Lay out the entire room with chalk lines as if there were no feature. Decide what area to leave out in the center then tile around that area.

Next day chnage thye layout inside the feature and go for it. Swap/stagger grout joints systematically when possible.:)

Thanks bud! So if I just want to leave one row of tile out all the way around like in my rough drawing and then put a pattern in were I left that row out should I do the outside tiles and inside tiles and the next day do the row of pattern tiles? Make sense? Thanks again.
