Newbie question alert: repairing wall after tile removal
Hi folks,
As the disclaimer in the topic title indicates, I'm new to the board as well as to DIY in general, so go easy on me, lol Anyway, I'm in the process of replacing tile in my kitchen and have removed the tiles. Doing so, however, has left large holes in the wall, especially around one of the power outlets. Here's a picture: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/phot...eat=directlink I'm not at all familiar with the wire mesh, but it would seem that both sides of the closed kitchen have it. There is nothing behind the wire, so I suspect it's attached via the studs. I think the brownish crumbly material is concrete, but I'm not entirely sure. What's the best way to repair this hole? I've patched drywall before, but the wire just isn't familiar to me. Thanks in advance for any help, -calvin Last edited by thesentiment; 07-21-2012 at 03:42 AM. |

The wire is plaster wire lath.
brown layer--scratch coat---top layer--plaster. Pack that opening with a thick mix of 20 minute 'easy sand'--powdered bag mix. If you are retilling---a thin top coat will finish it up--- prime before tiling---
