Kitchen Counter top

I recently had granite counter tops installed in the kitchen the contractor assured me that they would be the same thickness as the original Formica tops. So I very carefully removed the old tops not to damage the tiles and had the granite installed only to find that I now have a gap between the granite and the bottom of the tiles of in places up to 10mm.
I contacted the contractor who said fill it with silicon, that would not look good at all. So what are my options has anyone had to deal with this?
Any ideas welcome.

10mm huh?
I can think of a 10mm I'd offer the granite contractor!

So what are my options...
a) get him back to fix his schnizzle (new granite)
b) shim from the bottom of the granite.
c) shim from bottom of cabinets.

I would caulk it, would use grout caulk and you can get every color available to match existing tile grout.

Is very uncommon to replace countertops without replacing back splash.
you want to use the grout caulk in this area anyways, because the counters and walls will move in different directions and grout will always crack.
I think the colored caulk at 10mm may be a little big, I think the only one that will notice is you.
other option is to redo the back splash, as most people would plan on doing anyways.

I am with caulk also.
