Installing shower corner shelf
Hi guys,
I am putting the final touches on my shower! I would like to use an adhesive to install corner shelves (attached photo). What is the best adhiesive to use. I think I should use a construction adhesive, but some sites are saying silicone. What is the best adhesive to use for this application? |

Shorty,
Not sure about the one you have in your hand, but all the ones I've installed are made to fit in between the tile and thinset in, in other words, they're set into the wall just like the tile, not sitting on top of the tile. Mike Hawkins

I did a little more research on this site and found a response to a similar question from Oh'Mike...
"A flat backed corner caddy glued to the surface with silicone and taped in place until the silicone sets is the best method ." ny other thoughts out there? |

The gentleman was correct about mortaring the shelf in as the wall is tiled.
I would abandon the idea of the shelf in your hand and go with something else. I have seen a series of shelves on a stick. Take a walk down the aisle in the closest home improvement store and see what they have in the way of shower/bath accessories. If there is a woman in the house, you need to have at least 6 shelves in the bathing unit. |

I have installed dozens--perhaps hundreds with silicone caulk for the last 20 years or so---never a call back----so I say,"Follow Oh;mikes directions"

![]() I agree that Mike's method will work with this type of dish. This type is made for OPPPPPs, I forgot, but can also be mounted flush into the wall like the tiles. Next time I recommend planning and using the standard type. But for now silicone. Jaz

I also vote for the silicone.
I installed this bar with silicone: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50072645/ And then added these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90072648/ http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80072644/ I wasn't crazy about drilling in my new tile so I used a clear silicone adhesive rated for outdoor use. I don't remember the brand, but it's been several years and it is still stuck to the wall where it is supposed to be. FWIW, if you're limited to the shelf you are holding, you might consider this, or something like this. It's real handy for razors, small bottles, and anything you can hang.
